At Last ... an Accounting Workshop specifically geared towards employees who have the financial responsibility but not the financial background:

Drawing upon over 20 years as an Accounting professor, professional cost accountant, controller and CPA, as well as Dean\Director of 2 Schools of Business, Dr. Mick Carroll presents a clear, understandable, and extremely useful workshop on making sense of and making better decisions from accounting information. Dr. Carroll is a master educator having earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology focusing his research on how students learn and understand accounting concepts and principles. He was voted Loyola University's College of Business faculty member of the year.

 

 

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

This half day workshop is an introduction to basic financial and managerial concepts from the viewpoint of the user. Emphasis will be on developing critical decision-making skills through the study of real situations and problems. The workshop will also cover financial statement analysis with an emphasis on understanding rather than mechanics.

 

 
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This workshop is intended for all non-financial employees who have any kind of managerial or departmental responsibility, current or future who must face the daunting challenge of increasing financial and budgetary responsibility, especially for H/R managers, sales managers, marketing managers and not-for-profit professionals.

 

 
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS WORKSHOP?

The overall objective of this workshop is that upon completion, the employee will under-stand how to read, interpret, and evaluate financial statements, and consequently be able to make intelligent decisions from this understanding of financial information and financial statements.

 

 
Specifically, upon completion of this course the employee will:

Understand the important elements of the annual report

Understand how earnings of a company can be manipulated

Understand and interpret the individual items of the Balance Sheet and the relationships between them.

Be able to construct a Balance Sheet

bullet

Understand, analyze and better manage various expense items

bullet

Be able to interpret and analyze an Income Statement

bullet

Be able to evaluate a company based the company's Statement of Cash Flows

bullet

Be able to calculate basic financial ratios and evaluate performance of a company

Note: A pre-test assessment instrument could be administered or personal interviews given to determine problem areas and to determine the appropriate level of workshop needed. Custom tailored Accounting workshops are also available.
